Stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again in the yoke of bondage. For you, brethren, have been called to liberty, only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. A famous man wrote that. His memory will last long through time & after time has run out.In worship, there comes a realm where anything can happen, and our inspiration can be unnerving. It’s liberating. It has to do with what’s in our hands. Jesus frequently pointed to their contents with a question. Centuries before, a bush that burned said the same to a frightened shepherd. So there’s a certain mystery surrounding what we hold & offer in worship. It often seemed arbitrary & freewheeling, but was in fact precise every time. And it never demanded something we didn’t have to give. Worship is giving, in it’s most profound & yet prosaic sense.
