If I don’t keep searching for deeper understanding, what’s to become of me?

If I don’t ponder & wonder existence, what is life ?

This habit I’ve developed over the years of striving for greater acceptance of the depths of life, even in it’s most mundane of forms, as a learning experience, has netted an endless supply of teaching.

How much life do we live?

Are we just shuffled from little place to little place by those who’s livelihood is using us?

The prescription of ‘lifestyle’ that’s meted out to us by our day to day culture is a business;

one that totes up income & expenditure, like any other enterprise. They float little distractions that will tickle our lives for a while, & bank the profit that we continually keep them in.

Apparently they know what we need to keep us healthy, content & well washed to walk around and around in emptiness.

We eat their pathetic food;

we read their dreary literature;

we dress in their shoddy clothes;

we barely communicate, in the vocabulary & tone that’s taught via television;

and we get drunk on their booze.

And it’s apparently enough.

My Bible has quite a different message, one that urges me to wake up from this soul slumber, for one day I’ll have to give account for what I’ve done or haven’t done with my understanding of my world & Who made it for me.

Ignorance is something we called out from, not a destination we arrive at.

Complacency – and it’s easy to be complacent living here in Brisbane – is a condition one step from fossilization, that our spirit just can’t contain or be contained in.

So much nonsense is served up to distract our minds from useful meditation. I’ve heard a lot in my life and, yes, I’ve danced to their tunes sometimes, to my shame.

But no more; I’ve opened my eyes to what lies behind this trashy smokescreen of babble – ‘what’s Paris wearing?’, ‘how dare they!, I’d never do that’, ‘ you never know some people, do you?’

It’s a habit that I now keep.

I’m always seeking to read better the label that’s on everything natural.

I believe that will make me a better human being, to help others to be better human beings & so escape this half-life of deciding if we want fries with that; to have a nice day; & do you want a bag?
